On April 19, 2026, at approximately 2:16 PM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at College Estate Park located at 1400 Gary Drive.


Officers arrived at the scene and located a 24-year-old Oxnard male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is still recovering from his injuries.

A second 28-year-old Oxnard male was contacted at the park and was detained by police. Based on statements from multiple witnesses, the two individuals had been involved in an argument when the 28-year-old male allegedly produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the victim. The 28-year-old male was identified as Russell Escalona.


Following the incident, the suspect discarded the firearm. Officers conducted a search of the area and recovered multiple firearms at the scene.


Witnesses identified Escalona as the sole shooter. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on charges related to the shooting. There are no outstanding suspects, and all firearms involved in the incident have been recovered.
