Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 9:35 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, to Ocean Avenue between Anacapa and Catalina streets for reports of a trash truck on fire. Upon arrival, crews found the truck’s trash enclosure fully involved, posing a potential risk due to the vehicle’s compressed natural gas fuel system.

Firefighters acted quickly to cool the compressed natural gas tanks and bring the fire under control, preventing escalation and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. One engine company then escorted the trash truck to the Gold Coast Recycling facility, where crews completed extinguishment operations.

The fire was fully contained, and the incident was cleared by 10:40 a.m. A total of 13 Ventura City Fire personnel initially responded, including one battalion chief, one ladder truck, two engine companies, and one paramedic squad, with assistance from the Ventura Police Department.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.
