On July 24th, the city of Oxnard held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially unveil the newly renamed Zaragoza Oxnard Transit Center. The celebration was hosted inside the lobby of the transit center and the guests in attendance included prominent local leaders, members of the Zaragoza family, and the general public.
“To stand before you today, in my beloved Oxnard, with the greatest honor of having my name associated with the John C. Zaragoza Transit Center built in 1986-1987, to serve AMTRAK train and other transportation agencies that moves our people, that connects families, workers, students, and elders, it’s not just humbling, it’s deeply personal.
I’ve had the privilege of serving the City of Oxnard for 62 years, with over 31 years as a city employee and nearly 30 years as an elected official,” said John C. Zaragoza.
John C Zaragoza is the former mayor of Oxnard as well as a former city councilmember and county supervisor. Born and raised in Oxnard, Mr. Zaragoza began his career as a bus driver and has been a dedicated advocate of the transportation system that serves the local community.
City Councilmembers Gabe Teran [District 2] and Gabriela Rodriguez [District 4] both spoke on the ways Mr. Zaragoza has faithfully served the city of Oxnard and Ventura County in his various positions as well as the way he has influenced their careers as public officials.
Mr. Zaragoza was welcomed with a round of applause when he took to the podium to receive a commemorative plaque honoring the occasion. He thanked his family as well as all those that have helped him in his career of public servant of over 60 years.
