Nyeland Promise, a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to uplifting the residents of Nyeland Acres through education, health, and community empowerment, has been named a Champion for Social Justice by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties. This recognition celebrates organizations that are breaking barriers, fostering equity, and creating lasting change through community-driven leadership.
Founded in 2018, Nyeland Promise has become a model for neighborhood transformation in Ventura County. Through programs such as ‘Comadres Unidas’ which has empowered over 50 Latina women through leadership and education and ‘Cafecito con los Vecinos’, a bilingual senior wellness program, Nyeland Promise has cultivated a strong network of trust, compassion, and empowerment among residents of all ages in Nyeland Acres.
As part of its ongoing commitment to education and empowerment, Nyeland Promise has launched free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for local residents. These classes give community members the opportunity to learn English, helping them access more educational, professional, and civic opportunities for themselves and their families.

The Champion for Social Justice Award highlights Nyeland Promise’s commitment to advancing equity and inclusion through its grassroots approach. From organizing food and backpack drives to leading environmental and water conservation efforts, Nyeland Promise addresses the diverse needs of the Nyeland Acres community with cultural understanding and compassion.
As the needs of the community grow, Nyeland Promise remains committed to creating pathways for education, health, and workforce development. Nyeland Promise’s work serves as a beacon of possibility for communities across Ventura County and beyond.
