Judge Julia A. Snyder officially began her term today as Ventura County Superior Court’s newest Judge. While serving as a Court Commissioner, Judge Snyder was elected on March 5, 2024, to fill the seat of the Honorable Henry J. Walsh, who retired on January 5, 2025.
As a Court Commissioner, beginning in January 2019, Judge Snyder presided over Traffic, Unlawful Detainer, Small Claims, Asset Forfeiture, Guardianships, Felony and Misdemeanor jury trials. Prior to being selected as a Court Commissioner, Judge Snyder served as a Deputy District Attorney with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office from April 1999 to January 2019. During that time, she tried felony and misdemeanor cases in areas including DUI/vehicular homicides, narcotics, juvenile delinquency, fish and game, auto insurance fraud, domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder/dependent adult abuse.
She is also an adjunct professor at the Ventura College of Law teaching Evidence.
Judge Snyder is assigned to Courtroom 45 at the Hall of Justice in Ventura where she will preside over criminal jury trials.
Judge Snyder is a graduate of Brigham Young University and earned her law degree from Southwestern Law School and a master’s in administrative leadership from the University of Oklahoma.
The date of Judge Snyder’s formal enrobement ceremony will be announced in the near future.
