The Board of Directors of Clinicas del Camino, Real, Inc. hosted a meet and greet on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, to formally introduce Dr. Gagan Pawar as the new Chief Executive Officer of Clinicas to community leaders and elected officials. The purpose of the event was to share her vision for Clinicas and continue to build relationships in partnering to serve the community.
Board of Directors President Chuck Hookstra stated, “Dr. Pawar’s priorities are quality patient care and the well-being of staff, which just shows the kind of person she is. When the time came for the selection of a permanent Chief Executive Officer it was clear to the Board of Directors that Dr. Pawar was the person for the job and the right person to lead CDCR into the future.”
Dr. Pawar joined Clinicas in 2011 as a Board-Certified Family Physician, and in 2013 was appointed Chief Medical Officer. She served as Interim Chief Executive Officer since May of 2021 and was officially appointed CEO in November 2021. Dr. Pawar is a physician executive with a rare combination of skill sets including MBA-level business acumen, plus 17 years of experience as a clinician and Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Pawar is an energetic and involved leader passionate about community healthcare. She is an expert in international health care delivery models, with a proven track record of improving patient outcomes for underserved and vulnerable populations. Most recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Pawar led Clinicas’ innovative, cross-functional, cost-effective pandemic response by collaborating and strategizing with local leaders, business partners, and public health officials to develop policies and procedures in coordination with public health officials, labs, and CDC guidelines. She championed community health and COVID awareness in local radio, TV, and print media. Dr. Pawar was selected as one of 2021’s Top 50 Women in Business by Pacific Coast Business Times.
Dr. Pawar stated, “I am extremely excited to lead an organization like Clinicas where we strive to provide quality care to our communities. My vision is to collaborate with our local leaders to fill in the unmet healthcare needs of our community and make it healthier. We will make Clinicas a brand that is known in every household.”
Dr. Pawar has collaborated with non-profit and for-profit organizations, healthcare systems, medical groups, and hospitals. She has expertise in frontline clinical care, health care delivery, healthcare system operations, quality of care improvement, and managed care. She has participated in several primary care and community health associations and conferences, including The National Association of Community Health Centers, California Primary Care Association, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Pawar is a current member of the Ventura County Medical Association, American Association of Physician Leaders, and American Association of Family Physicians. She served as a commissioner on the Ventura County Medi-Cal Managed Care Commission dba Gold Coast Health Plan for eight years.
Dr. Pawar is Board Certified since 2011, she earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the Government Medical College. Dr. Pawar is expected to earn her Master’s in Business of Medicine from the Kelley School of Business this May 2022.
