A Port Hueneme man faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to automobile insurance fraud.
Jason Aguilar, 32, is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Sept. 7 in Ventura County Superior Court Room 12.
In August 2018, Aguilar reinstated his Progressive Insurance Company policy after a recent accident, but told Progressive he had not been in an accident in the previous six months.
In fact, Aguilar had let his insurance policy lapse in July 2018 just before he was in the accident.
The Auto Insurance Fraud Unit of District Attorney Erik Nasarenko’s office discovered Aguilar lied about the real date and time of the accident so that it would be covered by the policy.
Nasarenko’s office was helped by Progressive and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
