On Monday, September 28, 2026 at about 2:03 a.m., Oxnard Police Officers responded with Emergency Medical Services to a traffic crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Victoria Avenue near Gum Tree Street. Officers arrived and found a 64-year-old male lying in the southbound traffic lanes, about three hundred feet south of the Santa Clara River Bridge. The subject suffered significant injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. A Jeep Wrangler was stopped on the southbound center median just south of the male. The driver of the Jeep a 19-year-old female of Glendale, remained on scene and cooperated with Officers.
Traffic Investigators responded to the scene. Based on their preliminary investigation, Investigators believe the Jeep was traveling south on Victoria Avenue when the driver observed the male subject crossing the southbound traffic lanes. The Jeep struck the male subject, and the driver immediately stopped. About one minute before the crash, Oxnard Police Dispatch received a call of a subject in the roadway near the same location. Investigators believed the call was related.
Investigators do not believe speed or the impairment by alcohol or drugs were contributing factors to the crash. It does not appear any other vehicles were involved. The investigation is ongoing.
