On Thursday, June 4, 2026, Oxnard Police Officers responded to a burglary call for service in the 4000 block of Dallas Dr in the city of Oxnard. Patrol officers contacted the reporting parties who advised their elderly father had recently passed away and his house had been burglarized. During the initial investigation, patrol officers spoke to a witness who noticed a U-Haul truck in front of the residence prior to the burglary.
Oxnard Police Property Crimes Detectives picked up the case and began to investigate. Throughout their investigation, they were able to identify the deceased victim’s former caretaker, Luisana Cardenas a 43-year-old Oxnard resident, as the suspect who fictitiously rented a U-Haul using another person’s ID. That ID had been stolen during an unrelated auto burglary. Investigators learned that Cardenas was currently being held in custody by Camarillo Sheriff’s Deputies for various unrelated charges. Investigators were able to locate some of the victim’s property that had been taken during the custody intake of Cardenas. Based on the value of the items, Oxnard Investigators were able to arrest Cardenas for the alleged felonious possession of stolen property and identity theft.
Due to the circumstances and prior history with Cardenas, Oxnard Investigators suspect there may be more victims and urge anyone with information to contact Detective Corporal David Garza via email at David.Garza@oxnardpd.orgor (805) 207-7130.
