On February 26, 2026, a victim reported to the Oxnard Police Department that she believed she was the victim of a scam involving suspects posing as a major banking company’s fraud department. The victim withdrew nearly $20,000 from her personal account and delivered it to a subject she believed was an undercover investigator at a location in the city of Oxnard.
Throughout the lengthy investigation, Oxnard Detectives determined that the person she delivered the money to was an uninvolved commercial ride-share driver and the money was subsequently delivered to the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Javier Castro, in the city of Los Angeles.
On July 9, 2026, detectives from the Oxnard Police Department contacted Castro at his apartment in Los Angeles and took him into custody for a violation of 532(a) PC; obtaining money through false pretenses.
As the investigation is ongoing, investigators are seeking members of the public to come forward and report if they have also been victimized with similar circumstances.
