On Sunday, February 8, 2026 at around 11:07 AM, the Oxnard Police communications center received a 9-1-1 call regarding the birth of a child and complications involved in the birth of the child. The incident was located in the 2400 block of West Vineyard Avenue in the city of Oxnard. Fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene and located the infant. As they went to render aid to the infant, they quickly determined the infant showed no signs of life and the infant was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. The mother of the infant, Marisol Flores, a 30-year-old Oxnard resident, remained at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital for medical aid. Fire and EMS personnel took note of a suspicious injury to the infant and shared their findings with the police personnel on scene.
Investigators with the Oxnard Police Department Family Protection Unit and Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and handled the investigation. Investigators determined Marisol Flores had committed a felony act of child endangerment and Flores was subsequently arrested for California Penal Code Section 273a(a).
As the investigation continued, investigators obtained additional information which led them to believe Flores was responsible for killing her 1-day-old infant child.
