Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Jannier Misael Urbina-Avila a 32-year-old man from Ventura, has been charged with forcible rape, kidnapping to commit rape, and assault with intent to commit rape for the sexual assault that occurred at Kellogg Park on November 9, 2025. He also faces several special allegations and aggravating factors, including that the victim was particularly vulnerable.

On November 9, 2025, around 11:00 p.m., Urbina-Avila is accused of grabbing the adult female victim while she was walking home through Kellogg Park. Urbina-Avila is alleged to have forced her into nearby bushes. The victim resisted and screamed for help, but Urbina-Avila is accused of covering her mouth, dragging the victim to the ground, and sexually assaulting her.

Officers with the Ventura Police Department responded to 9-1-1 calls reporting a female yelling for help at Kellogg Park. When officers arrived, they heard the victim in the bushes and saw Urbina- Avila running from the scene. After a brief foot chase, he was taken into custody.

Deputy District Attorney Morgan Luna, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit, is prosecuting the case.

Urbina-Avila is scheduled to return to court on November 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court.
