On Saturday, October 4, 2025, at approximately 04:35 AM, officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Valley Park Drive regarding a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located one male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene and transported to a local area hospital.
Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) responded and took over the investigation. Investigators identified the suspect responsible for the shooting as Juan Hernandez-Nuñez, a 20-year-old man from Oxnard.
Later that week, VCU investigators discovered another shooting allegedly carried out by Juan Hernandez-Nuñez in the unincorporated area of Oxnard known as El Rio. VCU investigators worked with investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Investigation Unit. Both agencies’ investigators concluded that the motive for the two shootings was related to an ongoing domestic violence incident.
Through coordinated and strategic collaboration, the Oxnard Police Department and Ventura County Sheriff’s Office quickly linked Nuñez to the shootings within days. By pooling resources, sharing intelligence, and employing advanced investigative techniques, the agencies pieced together evidence connecting Nunez to the crimes. Their collaboration ultimately built a strong case against him. This joint effort not only accelerated the investigation but also emphasized the importance of inter-agency communication and cooperation in efficiently solving complex cases.
VCSO Headquarters Investigators were able to locate and arrest Hernandez-Nuñez for assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied dwelling, and making criminal threats.
Violent Crime Unit Investigators supplementally arrested Hernandez-Nuñez at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility. Hernandez-Nunez was arrested for PC 664/187 – attempted murder.
