During a search of the vehicle following the road rage incident, officers located a loaded 9-millimeter, semi-automatic handgun that was registered to Benjamin Cambaliza, a 56-year-old Oxnard resident.

On Thursday, July 31st, at approximately 5:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Fifth St. and Rice Avenue, regarding a road rage incident. A motorist reported that the suspect pointed a semi-automatic firearm at them while they were stopped near the intersection. Once the light turned green, the suspect fled in his vehicle. The victim as well as an independent witness provided a description of the suspect as well as a description of the suspect vehicle.


Officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (Gang Unit) located the vehicle in the 200 blk. of E. Hueneme Rd., in the city of Port Hueneme. Officers made contact with a subject seated in the driver seat, identified as Benjamin Cambaliza, 56-year-old Oxnard resident and a right front passenger. The occupants were contacted regarding the brandishing incident and ultimately removed from the vehicle. The right front passenger was found to be in possession of narcotics and arrested for drug possession and for being under the influence of narcotics. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded 9-millimeter, semi-automatic handgun that was registered to Cambaliza.

An infield was conducted and Cambaliza was identified as the suspect in the road rage brandishing. Cambaliza was arrested for the brandishing as well as illegal firearm possession. Oxnard officers also noticed that Cambaliza showed signs of being impaired. Officers conducted an evaluation and determined that Cambaliza had operated the vehicle while under the influence of narcotics, while armed with a firearm. Cambaliza was subsequently arrested for those violations.
