On Thursday, September 14, 2023, community members gathered in downtown Oxnard for a mural dedication to the late Ventura County Supervisor and former Oxnard City Councilmember Carmen Ramirez. The event, hosted by the City of Oxnard, took place below the artwork of muralist Anthony Macri-Ortiz on the side of the City-owned parking structure at 328 South B Street.
The 1,000 sq. ft. mural is part of the City’s Mini Mural Project, which offers young artists the chance to create paintings throughout the parking structure. The colorful mural features a smiling Ramirez and a collage of her efforts to create a better future for Oxnard.
Event attendees included Oxnard Mayor John C. Zaragoza, Mayor Pro Tem Bryan MacDonald, Councilmembers Bert Perello and Gabe Teran, Ventura County District 5 Supervisor Vianey Lopez, and representatives from the office of Congresswoman Julia Brownley among many others.
“It is an honor to dedicate this new mural to a leader who made such a great impact in our Oxnard community. This mural exhibits the legacy of Carmen, and her selfless devotion to serve her community,” said Oxnard Mayor John C. Zaragoza, to VIDA Newspaper.
