Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Lindsey Shaver, a 21-year-old Camarillo resident, was sentenced to probation and 90 days jail after pleading guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
On March 18, 2021, Shaver was driving on Pacific Coast Highway when she lost control of her vehicle, flipping it over. The victim, Laney Zambri, was filming a Snapchat video while standing through the sunroof of Shaver’s car. When Shaver lost control, Ms. Zambri was ejected. She suffered critical injuries and days later, succumbed to her injuries. Shaver was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.
As part of Shaver’s probation terms, she will be required to speak at local high schools regarding the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.
“Shaver’s decision to use marijuana and drive while impaired tragically took the life of her best friend. We hope that high school students will learn about the real-life consequences of driving under the influence and will chose not to do so after hearing about the tragic circumstances of this case,” said prosecutor George Brietigam.
Deputy District Attorney Brietigam is a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office DUI Grant Unit.
