Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Nicolas Luiz Vazquez a 26-year-old of Oxnard, has been charged in a wrong-way driving incident that occurred in front of an elementary school. The complaint charges Vazquez with felony driving under the influence of alcohol, with four prior convictions for driving under the influence since 2016. He is also charged with driving with a suspended license and giving false information to a police officer, both misdemeanors.
On January 11, 2022, an Oxnard Police Department officer observed Vazquez drive southbound in northbound lanes directly in front of Ramona Elementary School. Vazquez’s blood alcohol concentration was determined to be 0.33 percent, over four times the legal limit. Upon his arrest, officers learned Vazquez had four prior DUI convictions.
On January 13, 2022, Vazquez appeared for arraignment in the Ventura County Superior Court. An early disposition conference is scheduled on January 25, 2022.
