An incident that could have ended up on a tragedy was managed in a way that ended up with an arrest. On Friday, January 7th, 2022, deputies from the Moorpark Station responded to a disturbance call in the 800 block of Katherine Rd. Deputies investigated claims that the suspect, James Carlton, a 35-year-old Simi Valley resident, had made threats to family members and damaged property.

At the time of the deputy’s arrival, Carlton was alone inside a residence and he refused to come out. Additional resources from the Sheriff’s Office responded including members of the Tactical Negotiation Unit. Following several hours of unsuccessful negotiations, the decision was made to leave Carlton in the residence while the investigation continued.

Sheriff’s personnel continued their investigation over the next several days and ultimately arrested Carlton in the City of Ventura without incident on January 11, 2022. Carlton was booked at the Main Jail for criminal threats, exhibiting a deadly weapon, vandalism, destruction of an emergency device, and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $505,000.
