District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Sharon Brown a 28 year old, of Oxnard, pled guilty to felony automobile insurance fraud.
On September 18, 2019, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Brown was in an automobile accident in Newbury Park. At the time of the accident Brown did not have automobile insurance. Approximately two and a half hours after the accident, Brown obtained automobile insurance from Esurance. Brown later reported to Esurance that about 20 minutes after obtaining her insurance, she was involved in an accident.
A subsequent investigation by Esurance and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Automobile Insurance Fraud Unit determined that Brown had misrepresented the time of the accident in her insurance claim and that she was not actually insured at the time of the collision.
Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on January 7, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 23 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Automobile insurance fraud is punishable by up to five years in county jail.
