From dyes to cuts, Rocio’s Haircare offers a multitude of hairstyling services.

Rocio’s Haircare in Oxnard has been in business for 13 years, and the owner Rocio Viveros has over 23 years of experience in the beauty industry.

Viveros decided to jump into hairstyling after working in the fields for nearly 11 years.

“There was an opportunity to take beauty classes in Spanish and English, and I took advantage of that and entered right away,” Viveros said to VIDA Newspaper. “I did it with the hope of not working such a hard job.”

The hair salon owner began working in the fields at only 15 years old after moving to the United States. She first lived in Santa Paula and came to Oxnard after marrying her husband.

Viveros is originally from a city called Zamora in Michoacán, Mexico. Her interest in hairstyling came from her oldest sister who signed up for classes at Modern Beauty Academy before she did.

“My sister inspired me, she really wanted to excel,” Viveros said to VIDA Newspaper. “She is a very hard-working person. She inspired me to keep pushing.”

Viveros’s other sister also joined the beauty industry shortly after. Her sisters each have their own salons in Santa Paula.

Rocio’s Haircare services include hair coloring, perms, extensions, haircuts, waxing and more. Haircuts are available for men, women, and children.

Viveros wants the community, specifically anyone who works in the fields, to know that it is possible to move ahead if they aspire to.

“The work in the fields is very hard, and if you’d like to get out of it, it’s just a matter of following your dreams and pushing forward,” Viveros said.

Viveros has also been taking English classes to better her skills in the language. She says that although she does not use the English language a lot, she would still like to improve in it.

“When I hear someone speaking in English, I already know what they are talking about and when they ask me something, I know how to answer in the correct phrase,” Viveros said.

The Oxnard hairstylist has taken English as second language (ESL) classes at Oxnard Adult School, Oxnard Community College and is now taking online ESL classes through Santa Barbara City College.

Aside from being an established hairdresser, Viveros is also a mother of three and a grandmother to a 6-year-old girl.

Viveros’s has two sons ages 32 and 30, and a 22-year-old daughter. Both her sons attended Pacifica High School and her daughter went to Oxnard High School.

For those who wish to go to Rocio’s Haircare, the salon is located at 337 South A Street in Oxnard. The salon’s hours are from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
