A Fillmore teenager has been charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle by Sheriff’s deputies who are working with Fillmore detectives to solve a recent rash of auto thefts.

On July 25 detectives identified the teenager from a surveillance video after the vehicle was found at Pacific View Mall. Earlier that day it had been reported stolen by someone from Piru who had left the keys in the ignition.

A 15-year-old from Fillmore was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard.

The Fillmore Police Department has seen a significant increase in vehicles being stolen from the city of Fillmore and surrounding cities. In several of these cases, the vehicles have been left unlocked with the keys inside. The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging vehicle owners to park in well-lit areas or inside their garage, to lock their vehicles and to take their vehicle keys with them when the vehicle is parked or unattended.
