On January 27, 2021, at 7:40 a.m., Oxnard Traffic Investigators responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision that occurred on Rose Avenue south of Cesar Chavez Drive. Two passengers sustained serious injuries and a third passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Traffic Investigators identified Nathaniel Lamar Willis, a 32-year-old Oxnard resident, as the driver of the vehicle. Based on the investigation, it was determined that Willis was allegedly intoxicated when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree causing the death and injuries to his passengers. As a result, on March 9, 2021, Traffic Investigators arrested Willis for one count of second-degree murder and DUI causing injury. Willis was booked into the Ventura County Jail.
