District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Joel Gonzales, 25 years, of Camarillo, was charged with the October 15, 2020, sexual assaults of two female residents of the Royal Gardens assisted living center in Camarillo. Allegedly Gonzales assaulted the two women while employed as a caretaker at the facility. His charges include assault with the intent to commit rape, lewd acts upon a dependent person, and kidnapping with the intent to commit lewd acts upon a dependent person.
Investigators arrested Gonzales on January 6, 2021, at the Ventura County Jail where he was already in custody for the attempted murder of a six-year-old Camarillo girl. On February 4, 2021, Gonzales appeared for arraignment on the sexual assault charges. He entered a plea of not guilty as to both the sexual assault and attempted murder charges. The case was set for an early disposition conference on April 18, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Gonzales remains in custody where he is being held without bail.
