On Friday, January 1, 2021, A child custody exchange was to occur between Jose Ramirez Jr., 39 years and the child’s mother. After Ramirez failed to return the child, the mother of the child filed a Missing Persons Report with the Oxnard Police Department.
The Oxnard Police Department Family Protection Unit made notification to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Child Abduction and Recovery Unit. After several attempts to gain Ramirez’s cooperation and comply with the court order failed, investigators from the Oxnard Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office began an exhaustive search for the child. On Saturday, January 9, 2021, at about 11:00 A.M., Oxnard Police investigators located the child and reunited him with his mother. Ramirez was arrested for violations of California Penal Code Sections 278 and 278.5 for maliciously depriving the mother of her right to the custody of her son and for concealing the whereabouts of the child from law enforcement. Ramirez was booked into the Ventura County Jail on a bail amount of $50,000.
