California Coverage and Health Initiatives (CCHI) is a statewide association of outreach and enrollment organizations focused on helping children and families navigate affordable health coverage and ensure they have access to high quality health services.

Every year, CCHI accepts nominations for the Southern California Champions for Coverage Award, which highlights health care navigators doing exceptional work to ensure all Californians are covered. This year, the Ventura County Public Health-Health Care for All Team, has been selected to receive this distinction.

Our Ventura County Public Health-Health Care for All Team, is made up of three very committed, passionate subject matter experts: Rita Duarte Weaver, Maria Lara and Emma Cervantes. All three are Certified Enrollment Counselors with Covered California and Health Access Assisters (HAA) through CCHI. HAA’s have been trained in the application process for Medi-Cal and Covered California and are prepared to educate others on Affordable Care Act (ACA) policy changes, as well as federal and state level activities where health coverage is concerned.

Each person on the Health Care for All Team brings unique skills and abilities to their community, which in turn ensures a widespread and diverse population will have access to health care coverage.

Rita is a certified Train the Trainer facilitator who is charged with training others in our county to provide important healthcare navigation services; Maria has a passion for working with seniors in Ventura County, and Emma brings her tri-lingual skills to the program, helping to ensure that language is not a barrier for the indigenous community in Ventura County.

We are so pleased to have such a wonderful team. It is because of their good work that Ventura County residents are able to access care for their health needs.

CCHI will be holding the annual Champs event through a live-stream on October 8th, 2020. To watch, visit https://cchi4families.org/events/champions-for-coverage.html
