On Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at approximately 11:27 a.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department were dispatched to a shooting call in the 11 block of South “K” Street. When officers arrived, they were able to locate witnesses who told them that a dispute between neighbors had occurred. At one point, two of the involved parties went back into their residence and obtained firearms, then approached their neighbor again and challenged him. As the dispute continued, one of the armed suspects discharged his weapon. Fortunately, nobody was injured from the gunfire. Both suspects then retreated into their residence. Officers on scene were able to make contact with the suspects, a 17-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, and they were taken into custody without incident. Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. A search warrant was authored for the suspect residence and two firearms, and ammunition were recovered. The two juveniles were arrested for attempted assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, and brandishing a firearm. The 17-year-old suspect was later lodged at Juvenile Hall and the 14-year-old suspect was released to his parents. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
